Most people treat their dogs like they are part of the family. Dogs are often loyal and loving pets. You don’t have to be an expert to teach your dog a few tricks. Training your dog is easy by following a few simple tips.
Start By Exercising Your Dog
Before you start a training session, you should take your dog for a walk. This will help your dog get rid of excessive energy and help keep him focused during training. Dogs have a lot of energy and they love to go for walks.
Show your dog what you want him to do while speaking the command. For example, if you want your dog to sit, you will have to speak the word while gently pushing him into position. If you want him to shake, extend his paw while saying the word shake. Reward his good behavior with a dog treat.
1. Start with Simple Commands
Start training your dog with simple commands such as sit, lay down or shake. You want your dog to look forward to your training sessions. Keeping the exercises simple will keep your dog from feeling overwhelmed and defeated. Always praise him with excitement and joy. Don’t forget to give him a treat for successfully completing your commands.
2. One Command at a Time
Start your dog’s training session with one simple command. Don’t move on to another one until your dog has mastered the first one. Be sure to reward him for his behavior. Don’t be harsh if he doesn’t immediately respond. Stay focus and positive during the training session.
3. Limit Training Session to 10 Minutes
If you don’t limit your training sessions to 10 minutes, your dog may become tired and bored. Show your dog that the training session is a serious matter to you. Stay on task but don’t overdo the training session. Most dogs love to please their masters. Reward your dog with lots of praise and excitement when he successfully completes your commands. If your dog’s attention span wanders during the session, call his name to bring his attention back in focus.
